![]() If you don't need such a high refresh rate, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 S32BG75 is a cheaper alternative with a 165Hz refresh rate, and it performs similarly. While those consoles won't take advantage of the monitor's 240Hz refresh rate, this is at least beneficial if you also want to hook up your gaming PC. However, it has a higher 4k resolution that delivers more details, and it has HDMI 2.1 bandwidth that lets you play 4k games up to 120Hz from gaming consoles. It's different from the Dell Alienware AW3423DW and the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM because it doesn't have an OLED panel for the same deep blacks. If you have current-gen gaming consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and want to take full advantage of them, consider the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 S32BG85. You can also consider the cheaper Corsair XENEON 27QHD240, but it doesn't get as bright and has some input lag issues. If that's a concern for you, and you want something with fewer bugs out of the box, the LG 27GR95QE-B is another great option with the same panel, but it doesn't get as bright. Lastly, it has low input lag for a responsive feel, but you must update it to the latest firmware for the lowest input lag. It also has FreeSync VRR support with G-SYNC compatibility to reduce screen tearing. It has a near-instantaneous response time that results in smooth motion handling, no matter the refresh rate you're gaming at. Despite the differences in picture quality, it's another fantastic gaming monitor with an even higher 240Hz refresh rate that's ideal for competitive gamers. It uses a different type of OLED panel than the Dell Alienware AW3423DW that doesn't display the same vivid and bright colors, so the picture quality isn't as good, but it still displays the same deep blacks without any blooming. If you want something cheaper or simply prefer a smaller screen, then the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM is a great alternative with a 27-inch screen. However, not everyone may like its large 49-inch screen, and it also costs more, so only go for it if you want such a big display. If you want a QD-OLED panel but want something even bigger with a higher 240Hz refresh rate, consider the super ultrawide Samsung Odyssey OLED G9/G95SC S49CG95. It offers nearly the same performance, and both monitors have a QD-OLED panel that makes blacks look deep and inky in dark rooms, and they display a wide range of vivid colors with bright highlights. If you have an AMD graphics card and don't need native G-SYNC support, the Dell Alienware AW3423DWF is a similar monitor that's cheaper. It also has a 175Hz refresh rate and natively supports G-SYNC variable refresh rate (VRR) technology to reduce screen tearing, which is beneficial if you have an NVIDIA graphics card. It has a near-instantaneous response time, resulting in incredibly smooth motion without visible blur. ![]() It's an ultrawide gaming monitor that doesn't have the highest resolution or refresh rate compared to other monitors, but it combines excellent picture quality with fantastic gaming performance. ![]() The best monitor for gaming that we've tested is the Dell Alienware AW3423DW. See our picks for the best 4k gaming monitors, the best 240Hz monitors, and the best 1440p gaming monitors. We've bought and tested over 285 monitors, and below, you'll find our recommendations for the best gaming monitors to buy. Low input lag is also important, but that's the case with most monitors anyway. No matter the type of gamer you are, getting a monitor with a fast response time for great motion handling is beneficial. Before looking for a monitor for your needs, you need to consider the type of games you play and your budget. However, console gamers need a high-resolution display with HDMI 2.1 bandwidth to take full advantage of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. For example, PC gamers prefer higher refresh rates and lower resolutions, making it easier for graphics cards to hit the high frame rates needed for a smooth gaming experience. A monitor's refresh rate, variable refresh rate (VRR) format, size, and resolution all have an impact, and some gamers require different specs than others. When looking for the best gaming monitor, there are different factors you'll have to consider, and there's no perfect solution for everyone. The gaming monitor market is continuously growing, and more options are coming out each year. There are, however, many interpretations.Ĭlaire Ben Lakhdar, chief curator at the Bibliotheque Verdun, says the rabbits and dogs in the “Breviaire de Renaud de Bar” (1302-1304) represent courtly love between women and men.įreeman says the rabbits found in the “Smithfield Decretals” (below) are an example of le monde renverse or le monder inverse – “the world turned upside down.” Instead of men and women hunting rabbits, humans were the target, turning on their erstwhile pursuers. These relatives of the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog dwell not in caves but in the “bas-de-page” below the text of 14th century manuscripts, according to James Freeman, a medieval manuscripts specialist at Cambridge University Library. Illuminated manuscripts continued to be produced in the early 16th century but in much smaller numbers, mostly for the very wealthy. The introduction of printing rapidly led to the decline of illumination. Drawings in the margins (known as marginalia) would also allow scribes to add their own notes, diagrams, translations, and even comic flourishes. Very early printed books left spaces for red text, known as rubrics, miniature illustrations and illuminated initials, all of which would have been added later by hand. Paper manuscripts appeared during the Late Middle Ages. Books ranged in size from ones smaller than a modern paperback, such as the pocket gospel, to very large ones such as choirbooks for choirs to sing from, and "Atlantic" bibles, requiring more than one person to lift them. A very few illuminated fragments also survive on papyrus. These pages were then bound into books, called codices (singular: codex). The Latin word for things in the margin, marginalia refers to writing or decoration in the margins of a manuscript. ![]() Hunting scenes are common in medieval manuscripts’ marginalia. Here I describe the selection, management and use of the i-STAT analyser as a combined chemistry/haematology analyser in an integrated testing network consisting of 195 analysers, covering approximately 140 sites across the state of Queensland. These tests include arterial and venous blood gas and electrolytes, common metabolites, cardiac troponin I (TnI), Hct and Hb, and coagulation tests such as the INR and ACT. However, the Abbott i-STAT (Abbott Laboratories, Abbott Park, IL, USA) analyser is capable of performing a wide variety of point-of-care tests on the same instrument. Point-of-care haematology testing can be performed with dedicated PoCT analysers. These tests are usually regarded as ‘haematology’ tests and are commonly used in the management of infection, haemorrhage, and oral and intravenous anticoagulants. Whilst this attachment has continued to serve PoCT well into the 21 st century, an increasing number of testing devices are being marketed which perform tests such as the white cell count (WCC), haematocrit (Hct) and haemoglobin (Hb), prothrombin time/international normalised ratio (PT/INR), activated clotting time (ACT), and the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). In some institutions, this continues to be the case. This paradigm has probably arisen because historically a majority of point-of-care tests such as blood gas analysis and blood glucose testing have indeed been derived directly from clinical chemistry. PoCT is often regarded as a part or branch of clinical chemistry by many laboratory and clinical professionals. To avoid confusion, any advice given to clinical staff regarding their analysers should be clear, concise, and above all else, consistent. Test management issues should be resolved by taking the view that it is a ‘point-of-care’ test, and by looking at the specific test technology and method involved, rather than by just assuming it is a ‘haematology’ or a ‘chemistry’ test.Ĭlinical users of a combined PoCT system are principally interested in the generation of good quality results. These views must be considered when designing an overall PoCT management plan. Specialties other than clinical chemistry may have differing views on traditional test management, particularly with regard to quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), and training. ![]() Such analysers, however, are invaluable in some clinical settings. ![]() The appearance on the market of small, light, inexpensive, multi-purpose, point-of-care analysers, which combine a number of widely differing analytes, has to some degree upset this paradigm. Point-of-care testing (PoCT) is traditionally considered a branch or offshoot of clinical chemistry. ![]() Smith actually continues with the band and backup chorus in “Baby, You Make Me Crazy,” another favorite of mine. Not only does the chat box stay alive, but the UI constantly glows and sizzles with life, begging players to click through many of the various activities and rewards that pummel you as you play. Watch live video from Massivelytv on TwitchTV It didn't shock me at all especially since I have been brave enough throughout my time at Massively to venture into the darkest and most boring corners of MMOs, seeing first-hand how click-to-win gaming is not only popular but growing in popularity all the time, in spite of what mainstream gamers might think. The chat is always flashing with new players and chit-chat between older ones. Soon after the tutorial, you will find yourself in the real world, and you might be shocked at how incredibly busy the game is. A new player will hit level 4 within the very first tutorial fight (which is exactly one click of the mouse in length). You'll start off by making a character from one of two classes: Mage or Warrior. In the end, the general consensus was that 1) No, there is nothing else to do but click, and 2) Some people just dig it. I chatted up with a handful of players during my week in the game in the hopes of understanding what they get out of the game and to be sure that I was not missing some key ingredient that made the game truly worthy of a player's time. I do not mean any insult to those players who simply enjoy the mega-casual nature of a game like League of Angels. That leads me to the two questions that always pop up when I play a game like this: Who does enjoy such a title, and why make such a title in the first place? Sure, a player will occasionally need to look up from his Wyatt Earp biography to read two or three words of text on the screen, but generally the game does all of the work. I should have known as soon as I saw League of Angels that the game would ask nothing of me but to babysit the mouse and keyboard, making sure that neither ran out of juice. There is nothing so special about Western gamers - and their tastes - to prevent our MMOs from becoming single-click level races, and nothing more. There are plenty of players in the West who will (and do) gladly participate in this hands-off gaming. I've discussed the massive, massive success that browser-based gaming has seen in China and other places, but I always preface that discussion with a warning: It is not going away. It wouldn't really matter, anyway, because this week's Rise and Shiny game comes from the mind-bogglingly strange genre of hands-off browser-based MMOing. I am no fan of reading walls of text that detail how to "properly" perform in an MMO, and I will not break my policy this week.
